This was my first time riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle (XL 883 Sportster), following the HD Street Glide.
883 is agile and really easy to ride despite his weight.

Why is it Harley makes more money selling foreign fashion accessories than bikes?

Harley Davidson makes more money selling clothing, keychains and "officially licensed merchandise" than they do from selling bikes. Further, 99% of this merchandise is made in china, malaysia, and mexico. Even their bikes contain foreign parts from places like italy and china and are far less reliable or technologically advanced as other bikes. How am I, as a proud American, supposed to get excited about an "American" product, when it is far more inferior, way pricier, and less reliable than most other motorcycles out there and the company that builds it makes most of its money selling foreign fashion garbage? Doesn’t spending my hard earned money on something like this just make me stupid?

I am amused by people who want to "Buy American," but don’t understand why that means they will usually get an inferior product at a higher price. Everyone wants American workers to be paid more than everyone else in the world, but somehow think that won’t mean you have to pay more the stuff they make. Do you think those cheaper, more advanced bikes are made in union shops, with union benefits and retirement packages, or in factories that have to meet American standards for safety, pollution, etc.?

When did motorcycling turn into a costume party?

Shouldn’t everyone be dresses in a different costume? First a harley, then no mufflers, a poor or no helmet, some wear a handkerchief over their face, and a wide assortment of harley accessories.
Sorry Andy I didn’t mean to offend anyone, I see questions on here about people wanting to drive the right bike or wear the right stuff. Like will I get my asskicked if i wear this.
Bikinkaw you must be one of the guys I’m referring to. You don’t even know what a muffler does LOL… Do you know what a silencer or a full exhaust system is? Well you can google it

Easy to see when you add up the costumes, the chrome, the loud pipes, the bikes that have no performance but are status symbols, it all ends up being about the inner child needing attention. Kind of sad, but at the same time kind of hilarious.

The black half helmet is the biggest mystery to me, this is a no helmet state…so if you don’t want to wear a helmet why not just not wear a helmet, why wear a beanie that is going to be zero protection or a half helmet that is just barely gonna help? They must think it is part of the costume, or maybe they are so clueless that they think a half helmet is just the cruiser version of a full face helmet, same protection just a different style. Would these people wear half a condom when having dangerous gay sex? And then they wish they had face protection so they wear a thin piece of cotton fabric. Genius.
