We are trying to sell our 2005 Harley Sportster 883 Custom on Craigslist and I’m not exactly sure what’s a reasonable asking price. It has a few aftermarket add-ons, such as:
*Chrome flame foot controls
*Detachable windshield
*8 in rear passenger backrest
It was kind of an impulse buy and now we just don’t need it financially. It was hardly ever rode.
Also, the bike was dropped once and has a very small scratch on the bottom of the front tailpipe which is not visible unless you’re laying on the ground looking up, and a very small one on the end of the front brake lever that is also barely noticeable unless you are specifically looking for it.
Anyone with some motorcycle experience have any suggestions on how much we should ask for it? We still owe $2500 so is it ok to ask for more than that? I mean we did put money into it with the add-ons and it has extremely low miles.
Well, thanks for your help ![]()
3500 – 4000 depending on milage you can get bran new for under 7000 so you cant ask to much plus craigslist is full of crooks and people who will try and rip you off so dont just give in

Unfortunately this is a buyer’s market right here before Christmas and at the end of the riding season. You couldn’t have picked a worse time to try to sell a bike. (buy water ski’s and motorcycles in winter, buy firewood and woodstoves in summer)
Your best bet is to try very hard to hold out until spring when everybody wants a bike or if you simply cannot, then go to KBB or NADA m/c section and see what this same bike is going for with the same miles and level of accessories. The reality is you can never really recoup the cost of chrome unless its show quality and impeccably kept as such and actually adds value to a machine.
Don’t let anybody rag you about the whole "you’re selling your harley because of——" bullspit. People want to sell their bikes for all kinds of reasons. -Just get ready for some mild bashing….

Spend a few buck and use a pay site like cycle trader.
an 05 is still a faily new bike, when you hear people talking 3 and 4 grand that’s for an 80s or 90s era evo.
Even if your scooter isn’t titts, you’ll get at least 5,500
