I took my old BMW …
I took my old BMW GS out on Salem Speedway one afternoon, it’s 1/2 mile with 32 degree banks, man it’s a different sensation. I was running about 80 mph in the corners and a little concerned with snow melting off the top of the banks and making the track wet on the upper half. I think I always stayed perpendicular to the track, there isn’t much need to lean when the track is cranked over for you already. It was a different feel that’s for sure, Sound like those old engines are still hittin good.

Some of the 1920s …
Some of the 1920s wooden board tracks in the USA, like Playa Del Rey and Beverly Hills, had banks of up to 60 degrees.

You …

@videolester
You are right. No wooden board tracks. European way of drive. It´s Zementbahn (concret tracks). This startet in the 1920 for bicycle racing and it is still in use.
Special discipline: Motorcycle in front and bicycle close behind = Steherrennen.

Later they startet racing just motorcycles and cars on the same tracks here in Europe.

Those aren’t banks …
Those aren’t banks , they’re wall !, Mercy sakes alive it’s steep. I’ve raced cars on 32 degrees and that place on the video make Salem Speedway look flat. I liked how the fellow running high carried speed off the corner, he was riding high wide and handsome. great video I really enjoyed it. It make me want to see Rossi on a modern bike rip it a few laps. Paved oval racing on bikes , you just don’t see anymore over here, it looks pretty unforgiving. They do rip Daytona come to think of it.

Although this track …
Although this track is banked, I don’t think it is a “board” track in the true sense. The surface looks like asphalt … you can see the pavement cracks as the camera-mounted MC makes the laps around the track. Still dangerous, but FAR safer than the original board tracks which would give the racers giant wood slivers & splinters when they fell & crashed.
