How To Adjust The Primary Chain On A Harley Davidson Evolution Big Twin Motorcycle Engine

Here’s how to adjust the primary chain on a Harley-Davidson Evolution Big Twin motorcycle. See my FXR at http://www.hoohoohoblin.com/Harley-DavidsonFXR.html Inspecting and adjusting an Evolution Harley-Davidson Big Twin motorcycle engine primary chain is pretty simple, and you don’t need any fancy specialized tools to do it. You might as well change the primary oil while you’re in there as well. To adjust the primary chain, remove the shift lever if your bike has one that passes through the primary chain case, remove the left foot peg, remove the primary chain inspection cover, and then measure the deflection of the chain to make sure it is between 5/8″ and 7/8″ (16 to 22mm) at its tightest point. You’ll need to rotate the primary chain and check it a few times to find the tightest point. Harley-Davidson primary chains sometimes wear unevenly, so it is important that you check tension of the primary chain in different positions. To tighten the primary chain, loosen the nut on the motorcycle’s primary chain tensioner and move it upwards. then tighten the nut and measure the chain deflection again. Once you’ve adjusted it properly, replace the inspection cover. Harley-Davidson mechanics told me that putting some silicone on the o-ring on the plastic tube the gear shift rod passes through will stop the primary oil from leaking out near the shifter, so I recommend doing that when you put it back together. If you use silicone, make sure you allow enough time for it to dry before you take your Harley-Davidson Evolution Big Twin motorcycle for a ride.

Where can I get a catologue of S&S motorcycle engine perfomance parts?

Hi. I have a 96 Cubic Inch S&S Evo motor. I am looking to install a new air intake and cleaner set up and am thinking of velocity stack or a velocity cone. I have found many I like that will fit the harley evo 96 Cubic Inch and all parts for the two motors are the same except that the harley is fuel injected and my S&S is carbureated. Will those parts fit or not? And if not where can I get a catologue of S&S perfomance upgrades such as air intakes and such?

I would NOT go with a velocity stack. They are not designed for street use, they offer very little air filtration, the air "filter" is nothing more than a screen

You can look online at Drag Specialties or Custom Chrome for air cleaners, but it’s easiest to just go to a bike shop and look at the physical catalog. Almost everyone who makes air cleaners, makes them semi-universal that fit almost every engine/carb combo available using different adapters between the carb and air cleaner.

My brother is an absolute nut for motorcycles. I unfortunately don’t know much about them. We saw this motorcycle and he absolutely loved it, he said he wanted one just like it. He will be getting married soon and as a gift I would like to replicate this custom bike we saw and give it to him. I know it’s a custom Harley and thats about it. Any details about it will help. If you can give me the model, specs, custom parts on it I will greatly appreciate it and my brother will too… didn’t know which code would work so i put all of them..

It looks like a modified Harley Deuce to me.Do an image search for a FXSTD,Of course this one has modded pipes and ape hangers as well as a few other things.

This is one of my personal helmets that I have blinged, but no matter what I try this helmet gives me a headache after 30 minutes of riding. My head is a little too big for it. Since we ride more than 30 minutes, I don’t wear it anymore. It’s disappointing because this is my favorite helmet and it matches my Road Angel jacket

where is the best place to get assistance selling my motorcycle?

I have a 2005 Harley Davidson Sportster Custom I have been trying to sell on Craigslist with no luck. I have been contacted by National Motor Sales but I am weary of them. Does anyone have any sound advice?

Try ebay and set a reserve so you don’t have to sell if you don’t get a certain amount. I’ve always had a lot of luck on craigslist. It’s a tough time though, people aren’t really wanting to buy luxuries and toys like a motorcycle. What kind of bike is it that you have? HOw much are you selling for? Do you have a 250cc ninja? If so that may be why, htere’s like a millino of them on cl adn ebay.

UTI: Motorcycle Mechanics Institute, Harley Davidson.?

I’m wanting to go to MMI after i ETS from the Army, I love Harleys and they have always been my primary vehicle "even the winter and rain". I have no experience in mechanics, and i’m a field artilleryman in the Army. Mainly i’m going to MMI to use my GI Bill and collect the $1,500.00 a month BAH for the duration of the school so i can land at least land a part time job and have a place to live. And to be able to work on my own bike and not pay Harley out the yin yang to touch it, And also to maybe land a job at a dealership but im not betting everything on landing a job in the dealership in this economy. Anyways, can a person who is not a mechanic wizz learn everything they need to know from the ground up at UTI’s MMI?
