Two new bikes form Harley-Davidson and Buell are being revealed at the MCN London Motorcycle Show this week, January 29th – February 1st.
You can see the Harley-Davidson XL883 Iron at the show. The XL883 Iron is an entry-level machine, set to cost just £5,375. The Buell XB9SX Black will also be on display and features blacked-out bodywork and parts for a more aggressive streetfighter look.

The XR1200 is …
The XR1200 is supposed to be the performance option from HD. It doesn’t really fit the Sportster line up though. IMHO a return to a rigid mount frame with a new XL counterbalanced engine (i.e. lose the weight it gained) with adjustable suspension, wider rubber, brembo, and updated styling would have been better. Sportster weigh too much these days to live up to their legacy. The old rigid was ~500 lbs the XR is 580lbs. Thats a huge increase. Less weight is a cheap way to gain performance.
Cruisers barely …
Cruisers barely change from year to year especially HD’s. I’d imagine the margins are pretty good per bike compared to what you could get on the average sportsbike that eats RnD for lunch. Could simply be that their business model didn’t real make having a HD sportsbike feasible. Not really any other US bike company to compare with. Maybe it was Buell, but that’s not the same thing as HD having a sportsbike. Sportster has turned into an entry HD. HD buyers tend to buy another HD.

CamiloSantana…what street legal bike stock 1200cc have YOU ever ridden that does 0-60 in 2 seconds?? The Hyabusa arguably one of the most powerful does it in 2.67 and thats 1300CC, and yes Ive ridden one, owned most and hence 5 seconds for a Cruiser is not SLOW, name one Japanese 1200 CC Cruiser that can do it in less, even the rocket 111 with over 2200cc fails the 2 second mark, Go out, try the bikes, race them and then talk, don’t just post for the sake of it to look clever!!!

First “big bike” I rode when I was 11 years old was a 77 sportster, I have always been fond of them. I never understood why Harley didn’t go after the sportbike crowd. I know they know their buying audience but I always felt ,left out.

Whats with the hostility skippy? Did I strike a nerve or what? Most of my friends who ride Harley spend more money on biker costumes than anything else. Their idea of motorcycling is parading from one watering hole to the next while making as much noise as possible…….and they look fabulous doing it.

Actually the HD …
Actually the HD dealer in my town does the same thing: providing a shiny environment full of chrome – an atmosphere like nothing you’d ever get in a jap dealer… But what you get at the local jap dealer is good motorcycles, good maintenance and good repairs and now guess what: All that for a reasonable price compared to HD!
This reminds me a bit of the everlasting Apple vs. Microsoft debates taken into the world of motorcycles.
Personally, I prefer quality over any shiny environment.

saying that, i went to a H.D dealership down in the south of england (off some motorway i can’t remember what one) and the atmosphere was like nothing you’d ever get in a jap dealer! if the modern world could take one thing from the yanks it’s how to sell motorbikes..
